From Chaos to Control: How Scattered Minds by Gabor Mate Changed My Perspective
As the first book of the year, I was excited to dive into “Scattered Minds” by Gabor Mate. As someone who has recently been diagnosed with ADHD, I was immediately drawn to this book as a way to better understand myself and my condition. And I have to say, I was not disappointed.
Mate’s writing is both engaging and informative, providing a thorough examination of ADHD and its impact on individuals and society as a whole. He delves into the history of the disorder, the latest research, and personal anecdotes from his own practice as a physician. He also challenges some of the traditional views on ADHD and offers a holistic approach to understanding and treating the condition.
One of the things that resonated with me most was Mate’s emphasis on the importance of addressing the underlying causes of ADHD, rather than just treating the symptoms. He stresses the need for a holistic approach that takes into account the individual’s unique circumstances and experiences. This resonated with me because I have found that my own ADHD symptoms are often triggered by stress and lack of self-care.
Another aspect of the book that I found particularly valuable was Mate’s examination of the societal and cultural factors that contribute to the prevalence of ADHD.
