Last week, I mentioned that the new food pyramid should be questioned and that it’s important to think critically about what we eat. One area that I’ve been thinking a lot about lately is breakfast, and specifically, the importance of protein in the morning.
For years, I’ve been a big fan of a traditional breakfast of eggs or steak, and now I know why. Studies have shown that consuming protein at breakfast can help regulate blood sugar and insulin levels throughout the day.
When we eat a breakfast high in carbohydrates and sugar, it causes a spike in blood sugar and insulin levels. This can lead to a crash in energy and hunger later in the day, making it harder to control cravings and maintain a healthy weight. But when we eat a breakfast high in protein, it leads to a slower and more sustained release of glucose into the bloodstream. This helps to regulate blood sugar and insulin levels throughout the day, making it easier to control cravings and maintain a healthy weight.
Personally, I’ve found that starting my day with a breakfast high in protein, like eggs or steak, keeps me feeling full and satisfied for hours. And I’ve noticed that it’s helped me to better control my cravings and maintain a healthy weight.
